Our Program
Youth live full-time in the home of Thom and Mandy Augsburger, where the program is facilitated in a family setting. While Thom and Mandy are not resource parents, youth experience daily family rhythms — shared meals, routines, celebrations, and community life. Additional trained staff are always present to provide supervision and individualized support.
Who We Serve
Our Philosophy of care
Safety First
Emotional and physical safety are foundational. Youth cannot learn, grow, or regulate when they feel unsafe. Our environment emphasizes predictability, clear expectations, and calm adult responses.
Connection Before Correction
We prioritize relationship. When youth escalate, withdraw, or struggle, we respond with curiosity rather than punishment. We ask, “What happened to you?” rather than “What’s wrong with you?”
Accountability With Dignity
Youth are supported in taking responsibility for their actions, while also understanding the impact of trauma on behavior. We teach skills for emotional regulation, problem-solving, empathy, and repair. Change is approached through encouragement, structure, and consistent follow-through — never shame.
AFFECT Youth Services is a Non-BRS residential program serving male youth ages 10-17 involved in the Oregon Department of human Services (ODHS) Foster Care System who are unable to maintain placement in a traditional resource home.
Many youth referred to our program:
Have experienced complex trauma
Struggle with emotional regulation
Need higher levels of structure and supervision
Benefit from consistent adult relationships
Are capable of maintaining placement in public school with support
We provide an extended family care model designed for youth who need more than a traditional placement, but less than a clinical institutional setting.
There are no predetermined timelines. Youth may stay for days, months, or longer — we remain committed to stability for as long as needed.
